After landed in California in 12/1989 with 100 dollars in our pocket. We, my parents and four of us, lived in a two bedroom apartment for a while. I, the oldest son, had to find a job soon. We used to go to work and school by bus... no more private car with chauffer like when we were in VN before 1975... 8-( Then, one of our family's friend help us buy a used car ($50.00 US). Then my life was better and better. I had my own car to go to work and school. I used to work full-time for Mitsubishi and Pacific Bell and went to school full-time at Orange Coast College and another private school CDI. By the time I finished my equivalent 2 year degree in computer programming, I found no job...!!! I joined the US Navy so I didn't have to pay back my student loan.... With my expertise, hard working, and strong discipline (proud of myself a little bit...) I was immediately promoted to recruit Petty Officer in boot-camp. Life was still better, huh??? 8-)

Me and my "girlfriend" after I graduated from "A" school in Millington, TN 1992

Then I went to "A" school in Millington, TN for "gasoline and diessel engine" for more than a year. I graduated as top 10% that was why I could pick the "shore duty" order. And next to me was my "girlfriend" who was unlucky to be my wife two years later... ;-)

It's me again in

Against my will, the Navy sent me to "C" school in San Diego, CA (advance class) in mechanic again.... But with my strong discipline as a soldier, I managed to complete the task again with top 10% graduated... What a pride!!! 8-)

Petty Officer Le in his government two bedroom town house in Key West, FL

I reported to NAS Key West, FL for duty right in the period of Andrew huricane. Not a big deal, I'm a strong soldier... hehehe and a few months later, I took the test and made a high score that made me get promoted to a new Petty Officer in the US Navy.... It's about time to think about myself, then I decided to get married to my "little girlfriend" before and applied for the government house on base. I was assigned to a two bedroom town house on base right in front of a canal.... That was why I used to have 2 salt water 55 gal tanks and 1 small salt water pond which I raised the beautiful fishes I caught from the sea.... Life was a lot better, huh???? 8-)

me and my wife in front of Quater Deck of NAS Key West, FL

My wife (about 4 months pregnant with Tony, our 1st child), and I standing in front of a plane looking toward the Quater Deck of NAS Key West, FL.... It's cool, huh??? Because I was "Conch" citizen that was why I always wore short during off-duty. You know why??? Ready for action... in my car, always had scuba diving and snorkeling gears... hahaha I could pull over any time, any where and ready to jump into the water for fun...... What a paradise.... 8-)

The southern most of US, 90 miles north of Cuba: Key West, FL

Because of my 1 month old son (Teddy, the 2nd one), I had to leave the service when my contract for active ended. I couldn't get the oversea shore duty, because my detailer, at that time, mistook me for another man that had been irritating him, and forced me to leave my two little boys to go on a ship.... That was fine, I did the best I could to serve the country and the Navy didn't sympathize with my situation, it's OK. I left the service as honorable discharged and headed back to my wife's hometown: Memphis, TN where I started a new page of my life again... Life is still not bad, huh???? 8-)
